Have the Bold Conversations

June 8, 2020

“Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart, and you’ll never walk alone! You’ll never walk alone.” These words by Oscar Hammerstein seem applicable to so many difficult situations people are experiencing right now. Have you found a way to discuss what “Black Lives Matter” means with your kids yet? I don’t have a script for you to follow, but I do know that talking about these heavy times with your kids is important. Discussing how George Floyd’s family probably feels right now might be a place to start. Being quiet will not serve our kids. Instead, ask them what they understand about this horrific situation. Ask them if they have questions. Lead the conversation with an attitude of hope, reminding them that change is always possible, but is often painfully slow. It all starts with bold conversations inside our tiny families.
